Wang Zheng of China was named winner of the Insight Investment Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2019 in the category Skyscapes. His mystical image of the night sky as a meteor falls above a desolate landscape of withered poplar trees was taken in the Mongolian region of Ejina, in the historical Kingdom of Xi Xia.
He captured the image on 12 August 2018 using a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV camera (20 mm f/2 lens, ISO 6400, 10-second exposure).
The Insight Investment Astronomy Photographer of the Year is now in its eleventh year and this year received a record number of over 4,600 entries. The winning images, runners-up and those highly commended – are showcased alongside a remarkable selection of 68 shortlisted images in the exhibition which runs until 26 April 2020.
