Visual observers now have the benefit of wide-field eyepieces to drink in large swathes of the sky, but astro-imagers are somewhat limited to the size of their CCD chip and hence when it comes to imaging large objects, they must take several images and build a mosaic. This planning software works with most planetarium programs – all you need to do is input the shape and size of your camera’s imaging frame, overlay the frame as many times as necessary onto the object in question on the screen with the frames overlapping, and then let it direct your mount to point the camera in the right direction and start exposing.
