Project Scientist Matt Taylor explains science objectives for Rosetta’s final hours

Philae manager Stephan Ulamec provides an update on the status of the lander following it’s arrival on the surface.

Detailed analysis of data collected from Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko by ESA’s Rosetta spacecraft show that comets are the ancient leftovers of early solar system formation, and not younger fragments resulting from subsequent collisions between other, larger bodies.

The lander project manager Stephan Ulamec says tremendous science has been collected during Philae’s short time on the surface but battery life is now limited and it is unlikely to last much longer.
