NASA’s Juno spacecraft continues to send back spectacular images of Jupiter’s turbulent atmosphere, wowing scientists and the public alike with fantastical views resembling abstract art. In one of Juno’s latest, a remarkable dolphin-shaped cloud formation can be seen in Jupiter’s South South Temperate Belt. The image was captured on 29 October as Juno was flying through its 16th close approach to the giant planet, ranging from 18,400 to 51,000 kilometres (11,400 to 31,700 miles) above the cloud tops at approximately 32 to 59 degrees south latitude. The image was processed by citizen scientists Brian Swift and Seán Doran using imagery from the JunoCam instrument.
