Rosetta flight director says Philae ready for release

The Gaia satellite has discovered a unique binary system where one star is ‘eating’ the other, but neither star has any hydrogen, the most common element in the universe. The system could hold the key to what causes Type Ia supernova explosions: one of the greatest mysteries in modern astrophysics.

This image from ESA’s Herschel space observatory shows the Serpens Core, the heart of a giant molecular cloud. These giant clouds are complex formations, most often made up of filaments mixed with clumpy and irregular folds, sheets and bubble-like structures. A typical spiral galaxy like the Milky Way can contain thousands of them.
