Galaxy Gallery: NGC 6240

In this merger event, which began 30 million years ago, a frenzy of star formation and supernova explosions ensued, but that’s not all: NASA’s Chandra observatory has revealed two giant black holes, currently separated by about 3,000 light years, that will also eventually merge into one monster black hole.
