Galaxy Gallery: NGC 6745
Three galaxies have collided in this snapshot of galactic evolution. The largest galaxy appears like a bird’s head with a blue-white beak, leaning down to snatch up a tasty meal of a smaller galaxy that is almost out of the field of view of this frame. The bird’s beak and top feathers trace out the path taken by the smaller galaxy as it skims through the collision.
